Michael Tsang is the owner and principal consultant at Three Pillars Consulting, an environmental and sustainability services company based locally here in Oman. He is also co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Shams Global Solutions, a company focused on education and training for emerging technologies such as solar power and other renewable power sources.
He has been living in Oman with his family since December of 2016. Michael was born and raised just outside of Chicago, Illinois, in the city of Aurora (the ‘city of lights’). At the age of 18, he moved to Southern California, where he lived for nearly 9 years. Michael graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of California, San Diego, and a master’s degree in Environmental Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Michael’s wife, Nutaila Harib Al-Kharusi, is from Muscat, hence a motivating factor to move and work here in Oman. Before moving to Oman together, Michael and Nutaila lived in Washington, D.C. and Bordeaux, France. They have two children, their daughter Amara (age 3 years and 10 months) and their son Aymen (age 10 months).
Prior to starting Three Pillars Consulting, Michael was a contract-consultant to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center, in the department of Risk and Decision Sciences. There he worked on risk assessments and decision analysis of environmental risks of emerging technologies such as biofuels and engineered nanomaterials. Michael was also a research fellow at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. within the Office of Research and Development’s Chemical Safety for Sustainability program. There, Michael worked on building novel datasets and environmental models for chemicals. Michael also holds a Ph.D. on the topic of Eco-Design of Third Generation Photovoltaic Solar Cells.
